Can't Play a DVD in windows media player 11?

when i insert a normal dvd in my disk drive and try to play it in windows media, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer." i have the divx bundle and i am wondering how to use the divx codec or other freeware to play dvds in windows media player
