How often should I add an algae wafer for my pleco?

I just did a gravel cleaning and a partial water change. I cleaned all the ornaments also. I did not clean the sides of the tank, they appear clear, however I have a pleco and I know he needs some algae. I added an algae wafer today and he went nuts. How often should I add one of these?
