Issue of Hijab-NOT fard?

Many people say that Hijab is fard. many people disagree as well. I don't think its fard at all, but i have reasons to it as well. Every person who believes its fard-their argument is that Allah says "hide your beauty, display not your ornaments" however it does not directly say 'cover your hair" Also, Allah is all-knowing, he wouldve seen this issue come up had he wanted us to wear Hijab, and he wouldve have CLEARLY said "cover your hair" but he has left is open to interpretation, so my question is, is a non hijabi really any better or worse than a hijabi?
