How to get the jewel for Julius in Harvest Moon, Tree of Tranquility?

I want to marry Julius and I can't seem to get the shiny red jewel that he wants me to get in the mines. I go near level 28 and I have a silver hammer and I bang every red jewelrock I see. But when I refine them, I only get spinels. Can anyone help me on how to get Julius's gem?
